What is the difference between teaching and tutoring?Tutoring reinforces content a student’s teacher is currently teaching by providing the student with alternate strategies and more time to dive into the material. Tutoring/homework help is recommended for students who are reading on grade level but just need some extra support. Teaching, on the other hand, uses the assessment data to determine an area of need, then teaches to that level to fill in learning gaps since this explicit instruction and intervention is not provided during the school day.
-
Why is a reading assessment required? After years of teaching experience, I found that it is nearly impossible to provide exactly what a student needs, or offer best practices and services, without data to drive the intervention.
-
Where do services take place?Service location is contigent upon proximitiy and discussed during the consultation.
-

Do you offer SAT & ACT tutoring? Not specifically at this time. However, my professional and educational experience has focused on language arts, specifically reading intervention and strategy implementation. Therefore, if your student struggles with reading comprehension and vocabulary, which makes up half of the assessment, I can help in that area. I am also happy to provide references for other tutors who focus specifically on these tests.

Do you offer math, science, or social studies tutoring?"Not specifically at this time. However, if understanding and recognizing content level vocabulary and word problems is the issue, I am able to provide stategies and instruction. My professional and educational experience has focused on language arts, specifically reading intervention and strategy implementation, and I want your student to receive the best help. I have many connections to teachers who could assist in other subject areas. After an initial consultation, I am happy to refer you for additional services as needed.
