Many students have the knowledge to comprehend curriculum, but lack the organizational skills necessary to plan, prioritize, execute their assignments, and manage their daily routine, especially when surrounded with digital distractions. Working parents rarely have the time to make sure their student is staying on top of deadlines while also managing a household and a career. I will help your student create and manage schedules, develop routines, and hone study habits with support and accountability.

Parent Consultation and/or IEP Support

Cost to be determined based off individual needs.

Do you want to help your struggling reader at home but don’t necessarily need tutoring services? We can meet to discuss your needs, and I will provide you with strategies to support your student at home with reading.

Alternatively, if your child has qualified for an IEP or special education services and you are in need of help understanding all that this entails, we can meet to discuss the following:

  • What to expect

  • How IEPs work

  • How to advocate for your student

  • Strategies to help your learner

Reading Assessment

$150

It is vital for students, parents, and educators to understand a student’s exact reading challenges for targeting instruction and remediation. If your student has not received a comprehensive reading assessment within the last year with results for me to review, I will need to assess them to learn strengths and weaknesses so our sessions together are most effective. PEARL Teaching & Tutoring utilizes Pearson’s Woodcock Reading Mastery Assessment, Third Edition, which allows me to base all services provided on industry standards and data. For those unfamiliar with this assessment: “The WRMT-III is the standard for assessment of reading readiness and reading achievement, and helps to evaluate struggling readers, identify specific strengths and weaknesses in reading skills to plan targeted remediation, guide educational selection and placement decisions, screen for reading readiness and determine reading strategies for students with special needs.” (Pearson)

The cost for the assessment as a stand alone service is $150. This fee is inclusive of the test materials, my time proctoring the exam and evaluating the results, and reviewing the results with the family. Please note that many schools offer this assessment, or a similar reading battery, for free at the request of the parent, a teacher, or school psychologist. If you choose to have me administer the assessment in conjunction with enrollment in tutoring services, the one time assessment fee is 25% off.

Similarly, a “one size fits all” approach to learning does not work. When students are aware of their individual learning styles, they are better able to advocate for themselves, and use study strategies they know work for them to learn and produce content. The initial assessment also includes a learning styles survey.
